In
the rocky area of Twelveheads in Cornwall, William 'Billy' Trewartha
Bray was born 1st June, 1794. He was an uneducated, rough tin miner
and lived most all his life in Cornwall save for a seven year period
when he worked in Devon.
In 1821, he married Johanna, with whom he had several children. While
working in Devon he claimed, "I became the companion of drunkards
and during that time I was very near hell". He returned to Cornwall
a drunkard, spending all his money on ale, rather than to feed his
wife and children. In 1823, after reading John Bunyan's book 'Visions
of Heaven and Hell', he became a changed man, becoming well known
for his saying," I just can't help praising the Lord"...being mightily
used of God . This Cornish miner and Methodist evangelist died on
25 May, 1868 .
The reader, PastorBarry Ball was born in 1938 in Redrith in Cornwall,
very near to what became known as Billy Bray country . One of a very
large family, his parents brought him to church at a young age and
he was converted at age 19 and began preaching at 22, coming under
Reformed teaching through the Banner of Truth books. Over time, he
realized that God had drawn him out of the church of his youth," because
of it's increasingly liberal and critical attitude toward the Holy
Scripture".
Pastor Barry Ball is married and has a Pastorate in the Panshanger
Independent Evangelical FreeChurch in Welwyn-Gorden-City in Herts..U.K.
