Nothing touches the heart of a Christian like the old hymns we've
sung since childhood. Their words speak to our inmost soul as we offer
our praises to our Triune God through song. It was William Gadsby's
desire to make available to congregations, "a book of hymns easy to
find, having familiar arrangements, free from Arminianism and sound
in the faith, that the church might be edified and God glorified."
It is one thing to have the ear charmed, and another to have the heart engaged in their most delightful part of God's Worship in His church below. " Blessed are the people that know the joyful sound." (Excerpted from the Preface to William Gadsby's last edition.) But we have gone a step further in offering these hymns as a devotional, aiding God's people to meditate upon the truths which poured from the hearts and dropped from the pens of writers, so esteemed and so beloved, such as Isaac Watts, John Newton, Charles Wesley and others. It is our hope that you will be brought to new heights in worship and be strengthened in your faith. |
