The
Holy Spirit through His servant John shows forth the difference between
the mere professor of religion and the true Christian, leaving no
doubt to the sincere seeker and is the best referral for those who
question their regeneration.
This book is intensely practical; the word 'knowledge' is never presented
as a noun but always as a verb; "knowledge like faith is not
mere dogma but faith in action." The message deals mainly with
the vital and experimental side of things. There is scarcely any strictly
doctrinal teaching and few direct exhortations.
The efforts of Pink stands out from all those other expositions on
the Epistles of John. He explained that he thought he was not qualified;
not experienced enough to write on this work, albeit he had studied
for it for 20 years and had read every author of it. So when he started
on First John, Chapters 1 and 2, in 1952, the year of his death, he
never got to finish it.
It is considered to be one of his best works.
