Born on 9 May, 1828 in South Africa to Rev.Andrew Murray,
Sr, pastor to the
Dutch settlers and Maria Murray, whose home was alive with the sounds
of joy, prayer and worship: the young Andrew was much benefited by the
Christian zeal and devotion of not only the family but visitors such
as David Livingstone and Robert Moffat.
At age 10, he and his brother John, went to live and study in Scotland,
staying at an uncle's home, greatly influenced by Scottish revivalists..
and then the brothers went to Holland to study Theology.
In his early ministry he showed signs of becoming a noted author and
his favorite subject was 'a deeper Christian life'. He was the author
of over 240 books...each book dealing with many aspects of the Christian
experience... 'leading' new believers into a more consecrated life to
Christ, with the theme of total submission of the will and life to the
Savior.
He and his wife Emma had nine children, and like his father before him,
his home had an endless stream of visitors and friends. He died on 18
January, 1917
Some of his books are written in fifteen languages and still much in
demand today; they are a source of much spiritual guidance and insight
for the seeking saint.
Brother Murray was much used of God in the reader's life and because
of the tremendous blessings given to me...I hope to read on tape, D.
V., as many books of Andrew Murray as time and strength permits, hoping
to catch the wondrous truths of Murray's pen, on tape for the hungering
saints.
